The diminutive Ponnier M.1 was test-flown by Nungesser (who crashed while performing acrobatics at 200 meters in an unfamiliar plane) and other pilots and was found unacceptable, so it was never purchased by Aviation Militaire. However, Belgium was at the time having difficulty obtaining sufficient Nieuport fighters, so they placed an order for thirty M.1s. They were found to be difficult to fly, even after various adjustments were effected, and only ten were delivered. They may have never made it to the front lines. [1]
