While the Paul Schmitt S.B.R. was revolutionary in 1914, it was an underperformer when finally realized as a production plane in the Paul Schmitt 6. The variable-incidence lower wing concept was discarded and a standard wing was suspended beneath the fuselage. A 250hp Renault engine was fitted. About ten were built before the type was replaced by the Paul Schmitt 7. [2]
