Macchi's 1913 parasol design borrowed much from the Nieuport monoplanes Macchi had built. While its speed was respectable for the time, its rate of climb was poor, taking twelve minutes to reach 3,280 ft (1,000 m) and thirty-six to 6,560 ft (2,000 m).
Macchi Parasols flew with 2ª and 3ª squadriglia and were active in artillery spotting during the First Battle of Isonzo (23 June 1915), but they were soon replaced by the Caudron G.3. [2]
